Description
Bridging basic science and clinical application, the Department of Physiology at Aarupadai Veedu Medical College & Hospital (AVMCH), Puducherry, plays a foundational role in medical training through advanced laboratories, immersive learning, and active neurophysiology research.
Led by Dr. M. Gopinath, Professor & HOD, the department teaches 150 MBBS students annually alongside 235 Allied Health Sciences students across BSc Nursing, BPT, BASLP, Medical Biotechnology, MSc Microbiology, and Clinical Psychology.
What the department is known for:
✔ 10+ faculty and tutors, several trained at JIPMER, MAMC, AFMC, and MAHER
✔ Four dedicated labs (haematology, amphibian, mammalian, clinical) accommodating 80–100 students each
✔ Active neurophysiology research — Nerve Conduction Studies, BAER, VEP, and Cardiovascular Autonomic testing
✔ 4 ongoing structured research projects and 30+ peer-reviewed publications
✔ Skill Lab & Medical Education Unit training with manikins for first-year clinical examinations
✔ Faculty trained as Senior Instructors in BLS, ACLS, and JeevaRaksha ECLS programmes
✔ Regular CMEs and conferences, including the annual BMSCON international e-conference (650+ attendees)
