Understanding Drop-Through Side-Entry Rotary Valves

When handling delicate materials like food pellets, plastics, or fragile grains, a standard top-feeding valve can shear or crush the product between the rotor blades and the housing. A drop-through side-entry rotary valve solves this problem by changing how material enters the pocket. Instead of dropping straight down from the top, the inlet is offset to the side. This design fills the pockets more gently and uses an internal deflector to push the material into the rotating vanes without pinching it against the sharp edge of the inlet. This layout is highly effective for reducing product degradation and minimizing jam-ups. Because the material does not pack tightly into the top of the valve, the motor requires less power to turn the rotor smoothly. Side-entry models are built with the same tight clearances as standard airlocks, ensuring you do not lose any air pressure in your pneumatic line. They are commonly used in systems where maintaining the shape and quality of the final granule or pellet is critical to the business.
