Description
The Whirlpool WP4387490 bimetal defrost thermostat helps regulate the refrigerator’s defrost cycle by monitoring temperature near the evaporator. This component uses a bimetal mechanism that responds to temperature changes, helping control the defrost heater by opening or closing the electrical circuit at specific temperature points. This operation helps remove frost buildup while limiting unnecessary heating of the evaporator area. A properly functioning thermostat supports normal defrost operation, airflow, and cooling performance. Replacing a faulty, damaged, or worn thermostat can help address excessive frost buildup or other defrost-related issues. This replacement component is designed for select refrigerator models and should be checked for compatibility before installation.
